It received the Presidential assent on December 22, 2011 and was published in the Madhya Pradesh gazette (extraordinary) on December 31, 2011. The Act will soon come into force through an official notification.
In fulfillment of its commitment to protecting and conserving cow progeny, the state government had passed the amendment bill in the state Assembly in 2010 to remove the flaws in the Madhya Pradesh Gauvansh Pratishedh Adhiniyam 2004 (Madhya Pradesh Cow Progeny Slaughter Prevention Regulation), the release said.
The amendment Act also obviated the difficulties and to make the provisions more stringent.
With the enforcement of the amended Act, now the responsibility of proving the prosecution wrong would lie with the accused in case of cow slaughter.
Similarly, a guilty of cow slaughter would be liable to imprisonment for seven years instead of present three years and a minimum fine of Rs 5,000 which may be increased by the court.
The amended Act provides that no person shall slaughter or cause to be slaughtered or offered for slaughter of any cow progeny by any means.
Besides, no person, including transporter, shall transport or offer for transport or cause to be transported any cow progeny himself or by his agent, servant or by any other person acting in his behalf within the state or outside the state for the purpose of its slaughter in contravention of the provisions of the Act or with the knowledge that it will be or is likely to be slaughtered.
Minister for Culture and Public Relations Laxmikant Sharma has expressed happiness over Presidential assent to the amended Bill, saying that the desire of the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would now be fulfilled.
He lauded the efforts made by Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan in this regard and said that under the leadership of Shri Chouhan the state government is committed to enforcing the provisions of the Act in letter and spirit.

All these activities are environment centered. Every year, such type of activities are conducted. Children get engrossed in exploring this treasure of knowledge. Environment awareness is created among public. Programmes are organized to mark World Environment Day, National Pollution Control Day, etc. Various topics are communicated to students through lectures and exhibitions. As the awareness spread among public, the atmosphere regarding the conservation of environment was created in the city.
Some students are engaged in preparing idols for Ganshotsav. Preparing Ganesh idols from ‘Shadu’ soil and paper pulp is taught here. This eco-friendly concept evolved as a part of lake conservation campaign in Thane. The region that was once regarded as city of lakes was on the verge of losing its identity because of the increasing pollution along the side of lakes. The manch conducted a detailed survey and it was found that the depth of all the lakes had reduced due to the immersion of idols made from plaster of Paris. Awareness was then created among masses with the help of students. The efforts yielded fruits as the municipal corporation constructed artificial ponds for immersion of idols. It is important to note that none of the lakes in Thane is now utilized for idol immersion. Drive was also implemented for undertaking cleaning work of khadi.
